What is a health claim referring to the reduction of disease risk?
Labelling and presentation of foods in claims referring to the reduction of disease risk can refer to disease entities (Article 14 sec. 1 point 1, of the Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006); however, all requirements for a specific health claim have to be met. An example of such claim: “Plant sterols have been shown to lower / reduce blood cholesterol, and high cholesterol level is a risk factor for coronary heart disease” - Commission Regulation (EU) No 686/2014 of 20 June 2014 amending Regulations (EC) No 983/2009 and (EU) No 384/2010 as regards the conditions of use of certain health claims related to the lowering effect of plant sterols and plant stanols on blood LDL-cholesterol (Dz. Urz. UE L 18, s. 27).
